Environmental health community grants

Community grants aimed at improving environmental health are now available.

By Westernport Water - 9th October 2009 - Back to News

Melbourne Water and the Port Phillip & Westernport Catchment Management Authority have opened up the 2009/10 grants round to community groups and volunteer-based organisations.

The grants are allocated to projects or activities that improve the health of land, biodiversity and water resources in the Port Phillip and Westernport region.

In 2008/09, 384 grants totalling over AUD$1.8 million were assigned to projects.

Last year, Phillip Island Nature Parks was one of several Westernport area groups to receive funding for projects that assist in guarding the health of our waterways.

The enterprise used its AUD$22,000 community grant to protect swamp scrub and plains grassy woodland at the headwaters of Swampy Creek.

The grants are split into three categories and groups can apply for more than one grant:

·         Group Support grants for organisations wanting administrative assistance (up to AUD$300, excluding GST).

·         Group promotion and development grants for organisations to increase community participation rates, raise public awareness, or run training or education programs (up to AUD$500, excluding GST).

·         Grants for projects that address priority natural resource management issues (up to AUD$20,000, excluding GST).

Guidelines, application forms and all contact details are at http://grants.melbournewater.com.au/

Applications close on 6 November. Successful applicants will be notified by February 2010.

The Westernport area remains on permanent water savings measures. You can check these measures at www.westernportwater.com.au or phone 1300 720 711.
