Popular local writer Scot Gardner will give a free talk at the Morwell Library on Wednesday 23 March at 7pm.

By Latrobe City Council - 15th March 2005 - Back to News

Library Programs Officer, Noeline Grayden said that Scot was the author of five novels aimed at teenagers, and his book ‘Burning Eddy’ was nominated for the Children’s Book Award for older readers for 2004.

"Scot is an excellent speaker and entertainer and he will talk on the topic ‘bad books and madness’," Ms Grayden said.

"Scot, who has three children, began his writing career while he was a stay-at-home dad eight years ago. He had written several articles for Earth Garden magazine and it was then that he realised that he had stories to tell," Ms Grayden explained.

"He has had intense experience in a variety of fields including being a gardener, a clinical masseur and perhaps most pertinently a stint as a welfare worker in the Gippsland Schools Program ‘Footy, Beer and Girls’ (for teenage boys). It was here that the stories from the boys inspired him to write about, and for, that age group.

"Scot was lucky enough to get his first story accepted by Pan Macmillan who have since published all his novels. Now a full time author, Scot is currently writing his sixth novel called ‘The Chainsaw Prince’ which should be released this year," Ms Grayden added.

"As Scot lives in the rural township of Yinnar South he has a deep sense of community and so will present his talk at at the Morwell Library, free of charge, from 7pm on Wednesday 23 March," Ms Grayden concluded.

Light supper will be provided. For catering purposes please contact the Morwell Library on 5128 5436 to register your attendance. Scot Gardner’s novels will be for sale on the night.
