Windy Day joins Council’s art collectionThe artwork ‘Windy Day’ by Ursula Theinert was judge the winner of the 2016 Your Art Collection Award. Learn more about this news. By news@gippsland - 7th September 2016 - Back to News Ursula Theinert’s piece ‘Windy Day’ was judge the winner of the 2016 Your Art Collection Award at the exhibition opening on Friday night.
The artwork will now join Council’s art collection.
Judges, Penny Teale, Deb Milligan and Laurie Collins, announced the winner at the opening of Your Art Collection exhibition at the Corinella and District Community Centre.
Judging took place during the afternoon and the three judges after some difficult consideration were unanimous in their final choice.
Speaking on behalf of the judges, Ms Milligan said that they had shortlisted each artist and considered every piece.
Of Ms Theinert’s work ‘Windy Day’, she said that they had been impressed with the technique and the way in which the painting captured the feeling of the wind in the trees.
Ms Milligan also spoke about the light in Diana Edwards work and encouraged everyone to note the superb detail especially in the work ‘Spirit of the Island Swan Bay’.
Of Adrian Johnson’s work, she said the judges were highly impressed with the detail and the way he captured light, and that his work ‘Sunlight and Shadow’ was outstanding.
Ms Teale then announced the winner and Bass Coast Shire Council Mayor, Jordan Crugnale, presented the prize to Ursula.
Cr Crugnale opened the exhibition and congratulated the artists and community groups involved in the YAC awards during the year.
"All three finalists were of such high standard, showing amazing technical expertise in their various mediums and the works themselves were so sublime and evocative that they drew you in, made you stop and be still, and take a journey with the visual story they presented the viewer," Cr Crugnale said.
"Congratulations to Ursula Theinert; we are thrilled that her work is now included in our collection."
Cr Crugnale also congratulated the volunteers from Corinella Art Show committee, who did a wonderful job of hanging the show and assisting at the opening.
She also thanked the organisers of the Community Art Shows held throughout the year, all of the artists who took part in the shows, and the three judges for their time and expertise.
All artists were congratulated and received their awards on the night.
The evening was enjoyed over 40 guests, enjoying music provided by No Strings Attached and friends, with many comments made about the high quality of the art.
The exhibition continues until 11 September, and will be open on weekdays from 10.00am until 4.00pm and on weekends from 10.00am until 3.00pm.
