Northe Speaks In Parliament About Latrobe Relay For Life Member for Morwell Russell Northe today spoke in Parliament about this year’s "Latrobe Relay for Life" and his position as patron of this year’s event. By Russell Northe - 19th September 2013 - Back to News Mr Northe said "I’m proud to accept the position of "Patron" for this year’s "Latrobe Relay for Life" event to be held on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 October at Gaskin Park in Churchill. "Relay for Life" offers a wonderful opportunity for the community to raise monies for the Cancer Council of Victoria in the fight against cancer, whilst also demonstrating support for loved ones who have battled or are battling cancer. "Thank you especially to Janine Hayes, Sue Van Heurck and the local "Relay for Life" committee for their amazing work and I’m sure this year’s Relay event will be an enormous success." Mr Northe said "Relay for Life is more than just a fundraiser it is an opportunity to get together with your community and celebrate cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost to cancer and fight back against the disease that takes the lives of too many people". "Latrobe’s Relay for Life" is this year celebrating its 11th year, on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 October 2013. The event will commence at 4pm on Saturday 19 October and conclude at 10am on Sunday 20 October," Mr Northe said. "Relay for Life" is a unique event where teams of 10 to 15 people challenge themselves to take turns to keep a baton moving in a relay style walk or run overnight. "Each event is unique and you can stay for the whole event, camp overnight, or just visit and enjoy the free entertainment, prizes and ceremonies that make Relay for Life so inspirational." Mr Northe said "Each person on the team pays a registration fee which includes a polo shirt and cold breakfast at the event. Participants are supported in their fundraising efforts in the lead up to the event." There are no age limitations or fitness requirements – Relay for Life is suitable for everyone and anyone can join in the fun!
