Events Latrobe Manager, Janiene Ayre, said the local Volleyball Association and Latrobe City Council have worked tirelessly to prepare the Moe Newborough Sports Centre for the state-wide event.

"This year’s event will host a record thirty five teams and will also attract many dedicated friends and supporters of the volleyball players to Latrobe. The teams participating in the competition are from a variety of Country Victorian towns, including local areas such as Churchill, Moe and Morwell, and visiting areas such as Bairnsdale, Korumburra, Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong, Bellarine, Horsham and Warrnambool," Ms Ayre said.

"Every effort has been made to ensure that the players will compete with the very best equipment and that the Moe Newborough Sports Stadium is fully prepared to successfully hold a competition of this size," Ms Ayre explained.

Almost one hundred games will be played over the course of the weekend and competitions will run for men, women, junior girls and junior boys competing in four separate divisions.

"There will be a number of Latrobe Valley teams competing over the weekend to defend their titles, which they won in Warrnambool last year. The local men’s and women’s teams in division one will be battling it out to for a consecutive win, and so will the Morwell women’s and junior girls’ teams," Ms Ayre added.

The Yallourn Energy Victorian Country Volleyball Championships will take place at the Moe Newborough Sports Centre on Saturday 12, Sunday 13 and Monday 14 June. Competitions begin at 8.30am and continue until 9pm on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 June and the finals will be conducted on Monday 14 June. Junior finals begin at 11am, Division Two finals begin
