Art to add to Cape Paterson Foreshore

New public artwork in Cape Paterson is about to be installed.

By news@gippsland - 24th March 2021 - Back to News

A new public artwork in Cape Paterson is about to begin. The artwork will be located on the foreshore area, beside the shared pathway and in the centre of town, along Surf Beach Road. The artwork, provisionally named ‘Time’, was commissioned by Bass Coast Shire Council as part of its annual public art commissioning program.

Local artist created artwork

Local artist Joe Donohue is the creator of this new artwork. Suitably abstract, it is not intended to be considered as one particular theme or viewed from one particular direction or angle. It is deliberately open for interpretation. Some might see individual ribs recognised in the Lomandra and Poa grass strands indigenous to the area.

Others might see an architectural bower or a nostalgic nod to the tea tree lined tracks that wind along the foreshore, their ropey tunnelled paths patched and knotted with light and shade. The intention of this artwork is to harness that sentimental embrace.

A project supported by council

The artwork was selected by a Panel made up of local community members, Councillors and members of Council’s Arts and Culture Advisory Committee. This project was funded through Council’s 2019/20 Capital Works Program with an overall budget of $50,000. The installation process will occur in stages over the next few months. For information on this project, please contact Council’s Recreation and Culture Team on 1300 BCOAST (226 278) or (03) 5671 2211.
