Traces in Time exhibition coming to Gallery

Passionate relationships to objects and memory, family secrets and the environment are some of the themes depicted in a new exhibition coming to the Community Access Gallery at the Latrobe Regional Gallery from Saturday 27 March.

By Latrobe Shire Council - 19th March 2004 - Back to News

Gallery Director, Louise Tegart said that local artists Dalys Svenson Flay, Jill Wyers, Sheena Jones and Kay Sheean pull back the curtains of time to explore traces of the past.

"These artists, who work with diverse media, have opened the doors of their creativity to produce work that is influenced by both their lives as artists and as women in a regional community," Ms Tegart explained.

"The artworks all play with the notion of history and examine the traces of the past in the present. The passage of time is revealed as a tangible entity in the works as the artists ask the viewer to consider ideas of memory, nostalgia and remembrance," Ms Tegart said.

All four artists are currently studying or have completed their Visual Arts Degree at the Gippsland Centre for Art and Design at Monash University.

The exhibition runs until Sunday 11 April.

The Latrobe Regional Gallery is located at 138 Commercial Road, Morwell, and is open Tuesday to Friday 10am-5pm, and on weekends 11am–4pm. The gallery is closed Mondays and Public Holidays. For further information about exhibitions at the gallery, please telephone 5128 5700.
