Festival FinedAn investigation into alleged breaches of the planning permit by the Pyramid Rock Festival has been completed. By Bass Coast Shire Council - 24th March 2006 - Back to News The report presented to Council last week advised that three breaches have been identified and infringement notices have been issued.
Council’s Director of Planning and Environment, Andrew Mason confirmed the three clear breaches.
"The notices which have been issued related to three separate permit conditions (conditions 3, 27 and 28)," said Mr Mason.
"There was clear evidence of breaches in these areas.
"There were insufficient toilets and showers provided; the site clean-up did not occur within the designated three day timeframe; and the areas set aside for parked vehicles and access lane within the endorsed plans were not adhered to.
In total, Pyramid Rock Festival was fined $3,144.
Mr Mason said that while it was Council officers who investigated the alleged breaches, the actual amount of each infringement notice was determined by the Planning and Environment Act 1987.
The Pyramid Rock Festival permit was for a once-only event and Mr Mason stressed that any new application would need to be looked at on its own merits.
"Any future event would be subject to a new planning permit," said Mr Mason.
"I think the important lesson for us is that this type of event has the capacity to impact on the entire shire.
"Council officers would need to be diligent before the event to ensure compliance with all the conditions of the permit. To date, no application from the Pyramid Rock Festival to stage an event in 2006 has been received by Council.
