New Survey Reveals What Gets On The Nerves Of AustraliansFind out what drives your neighbour up the wall... By Emma Kae - 22nd August 2002 - Back to News Every Australian has one thing that he or she cannot stand, whether it be cold chips from McDonalds, a broken heel on a favourite pair of shoes or getting stuck in traffic. A new survey by Marketing Focus has revealed a hierarchy of issues that appear to orchestrate the irritation among the Australian public. In the 2000 people polled, they were:
IVR - 93%
Extended waiting times in branches - 78%
Unsolicited telemarketing - 69%
Direct mail - 67%
Email spam - 38%
Bad service - 34%
The behaviour of fellow consumers - 18%
Another interesting factor was that 77% of people believed that the standard of service had decreased within the 12 months that preceded the survey. The poll also revealed that 61% of participants acknowledged that their expectations of service had increased in the same period.
