Aussie songster to perform at Gallery

After continuing to tour the nation, Danny McDonald returns to Latrobe City, performing at Latrobe Regional Gallery on Friday 8 October.

Latrobe City Box Office and Program Coordinator, Kathleen Roberts, said that Danny has earned a reputation as one of Australia's hardest working and most enduring singer-songwriters, having countless CDs, vinyl releases and compilations to his name.

"Many of Danny’s past releases were featured heavily on radio stations such as Triple J, Nova FM and the Austereo network, and slowly but surely Danny has built a career around consistently releasing great records.

"Danny’s robust resilience and tough independent work ethic has in no small way contributed to his success. He has appeared on TV programs such as ‘Hey Hey It’s Saturday’, ‘Rove Live’ and ‘The Saddle Club’; he has performed at large music festivals, such as the Livid Festival; and he has also released records in France, America, Brazil and Japan. For an independent artist, this is no small feat," Ms Roberts said.

Danny McDonald has had a variety of experiences in the music industry, performing in the successful bands ‘P76’, ‘Jericho’ and ‘Oscarlima’, and also appearing as a founding member of Aussie garage-rock band ‘The Stoneage Hearts’.

"Danny now records and tours under his own name, and his music is inspired by Australian song writing legends, such as Paul Kelly, Mick Thomas and Tim Rogers. However, Danny’s debut full-length solo album ‘Summer City’ reflects his own unique style of song writing, combining Australian lyricism with rock’n’roll, acoustic folk, 60’s Surf and indie pop," Ms Roberts added.

Latrobe City Council in partnership with mecu presents Danny McDonald at Latrobe Regional Gallery on Friday 8 October at 6pm. Tickets cost $10 per person and complimentary cheese and a glass of wine is available on arrival. Tickets are available from Latrobe City’s Box Office, telephone 5176 3559; Latrobe Regional Gallery, telephone 5128 5700; Select Music Systems in Traralgon, telephone 5174 2849; and Moe Citizen Service Centre, telephone 1300 367 700.
