Ingram congratulates Lifeline on fundraising sleep-out

Lifeline Gippsland has been congratulated for its fourth annual community leaders’ sleep-out held on Friday night.

Speaking in Parliament this week, the Member for Gippsland East, Craig Ingram, paid tribute to the Lifeline organisation and its volunteers who provide counselling for callers who use the 24 hour service. This was Mr Ingram’s third year participating in the fundraising event, sleeping at the Bairnsdale Aerodrome.

"Lifeline provides an outstanding service for the people of Gippsland and I was proud to support it by participating in the sleep-out," Mr Ingram said.

"There were two official sleep-out venues in Gippsland – the Bairnsdale Aerodrome and Gippsland Heritage Park at Moe.

"A rebel group formed this year and added a third venue in Bairnsdale’s Main Street Rotunda, which is great for the Lifeline cause.

"There was some friendly rivalry between the rebel group and my group, and the comment was made by one of the participants on ABC radio that I was ‘soft’ for not sleeping at the rotunda.

"From all accounts the rebel group didn’t do things too hard themselves and I am informed that there was a plasma TV to watch the Friday night football and croissants were delivered and served for breakfast.

"All in all, I was very pleased to participate again and most importantly the event resulted in raising over $17,000 for the vital service that Lifeline provides," Mr Ingram concluded.

* Lifeline’s 24 hour crisis, information and referral line number is 13 11 14.
