Northe Urges Celebrations For Australia Day

Australia Day 2011

Australia Day 2011

Nationals Member for Morwell Russell Northe has urged the residents of Gippsland to join in celebrations for Australia Day, and pay tribute to those who made Australia the country it is today.

By Russell Northe - 19th January 2011 - Back to News

"It’s with a great deal of pride that I congratulate the communities throughout the Latrobe Valley on the effort they have taken to organise and celebrate an important day in our calendar," Mr Northe said.

"We have much to be thankful for and proud of, about our great nation

"We really do live in the Lucky Country, with strong communities, dedicated families, and expanding opportunities. Not to mention our weather, lifestyle, and history.

"This has only come about through the efforts and sacrifices of our forbearers and, as a community, it is appropriate that we take the time to celebrate this.

"The good things in Australia are maintained and enhanced by dedicated individuals and community groups who continue to give of themselves to make our communities a better place to live.

"To all those in the Latrobe Valley who have been nominated for awards on Australia Day including businesses, community groups and volunteers I congratulate you on your extraordinary feats and dedication.

"As we are well aware, Australia is a land of droughts and flooding rains, but at times some people and some communities cop more than their fair share of grief.

"So this year, whilst celebrating Australia Day I ask everyone to also pause and spare a thought for people hit by the recent terrible floods. Consider making a donation or helping in some other way.

"I urge everyone to display your appreciation of our community and our nation on this Australia Day and to continue to demonstrate this pride throughout the whole year."
