Arts And Cultural WorkshopAre arts and culture important to you? Do you have ideas about how to expand arts and culture in Bass Coast? If you answered yes, then we need you! By Bass Coast - 10th March 2011 - Back to News Bass Coast Shire Council is hosting a free workshop on Saturday, 19 March at the Wonthaggi Town Hall, to help identify the local arts and culture opportunities. Arts Officer, Josephine Kent is keen to get as many people involved in the workshop as possible.
"Bass Coast is really blessed with a thriving arts community and it is so important that we tap into that enthusiasm and vision," said Ms Kent.
"The workshop will use our Arts and Cultural Plan as a guide for discussion and will be lead by John Smithies, the Director of Cultural Development Network of Victoria.
"Having John there to bring his expertise and guidance to the workshop discussion will be a real benefit."
Items listed on the agenda include:
· What are the best ways to bring people together through arts activities?
· How do we work on projects together?
· How we can promote our cultural and heritage identity?
· What are the ways we can use art as a tool for environmental awareness?
"This is a great opportunity for the arts community to come together and develop a vision for their future," said Ms Kent.
"The workshop participants will also explore how we can best link individuals, community arts organisations and all levels of government to make sure we have a healthy and vibrant arts and culture community."
The free workshop runs from 10.00am until 3.00pm on Saturday, 19 March at the Wonthaggi Town Hall. Lunch is provided. If you would like to be involved, please contact Arts Officer, Josephine Kent, on 1300 BCOAST (226 278).
The Cultural Development Network is an independent non-profit organisation that links individual practitioners, community organisations and government across Victoria around issues of cultural vitality. They advocate for a stronger role for arts and cultural expression to build a healthier, more engaged and sustainable society.
