Moe Call Cente: An Australian Winner

A Moe based call centre operated by the Victorian Office of Housing has been recognised as the best new teleservices centre in Australia in the Australian Teleservices Association’s (ATA) 2004 National Awards.

By Minister for Housing - 28th September 2004 - Back to News

The Moe centre beat six call centres Australia-wide, including Centrelink, TNT and AGL, to be awarded the top prize in the greenfields teleservices category at a ceremony in Melbourne on Friday.

"This is a tremendous achievement for the Moe call centre and its hard working and talented staff," the Housing Minister Candy Broad said today.

"This comes on top of the announcement in July this year that the Moe centre had won the ATA’s Victorian award for the best greenfields site.

"The centre was established in September 2003 to take calls from public housing tenants Victoria-wide on maintenance issues. The focus of the centre has always been on establishing a first-rate service for tenants, as well as providing a boost for the local economy."

The greenfields category recognises call centres that have been in operation or have re-located within the last 18 months. The ATA Awards are the pre-eminent awards for the call centre industry.

The centre has answered more than 420,000 calls from tenants to date and is currently taking an average of 1,400 calls per day. More than 65 local people are employed on a full or part time basis at the centre.

Two independent judges conducted visits to all finalists and looked at a range of factors; including customer satisfaction, staff training and retention, productivity and the physical facilities available at the centre.

The Office of Housing call centre was created to give special attention to both hearing-impaired public housing tenants and tenants who speak another language.

"The Bracks Government is committed to expanding the supply of affordable housing and to increasing its quality. The Moe call centre is an important part of this," Ms Broad said.

"This latest recognition from the ATA is a marvellous testament to the hard work and professionalism of centre staff and I congratulate them once again."
