Ratepayers Given Option Of Returning Hard Waste Vouchers

Latrobe City ratepayers who wish to return their unused hard waste vouchers to council prior to 1 May 2008 will receive a credit on their rates for the corresponding voucher amount.

At Monday night’s council meeting Latrobe City Council offered its ratepayers a ‘use or return’ option following consideration of significant concern registered in the community by those claiming they had no need for a hard waste service.

Latrobe City’s chief executive officer, Paul Buckley, said ratepayers would be advised through advertisements appearing in the media during the next two weeks of arrangements for the return of their unused vouchers, and how credits will be applied. "There will also be reminders in the media in the lead up to 1 May 2008 of those arrangements," Mr Buckley said.

Mr Buckley said returning the vouchers for a credit was just one of the options. "There are a significant number of residents who have already taken advantage of the vouchers to take their hard waste to the transfer stations from their properties. Many will continue to do so. The vouchers are valid until 30 June 2008.

"Others have booked in for the at-call collection service currently being conducted, utilising their vouchers to discount the charge for their hard waste collection. Another at-call hard waste collection service is planned for April 2008 and the vouchers are valid for a discount on that service," Mr Buckley added.
