By Wellington Shire Council - 10th August 2004 - Back to News Library staff will be busy all week reading books - which have been nominated for this year’s Children’s Book Awards - in story-time sessions for schools and kindergartens throughout the shire.
Friday 27 August at 6.00pm children can get into their pyjamas, grab their teddies and get along to their local library for an exciting bedtime story session. This special after-hours event presents a great opportunity for working parents to join in all the fun.
Children’s Book Week is an annual event which celebrates and promotes literacy and a love of reading to our children. Last year it saw over 1,000 children benefit from Wellington Library Service’s book week activities.
Said Wellington’s Mayor Jeff Amos: "The council is delighted to provide our youngsters with several unique opportunities to learn and explore reading and books as part of Children’s Book Week. This year’s promise of a special session that working parents can attend is a welcome move and will undoubtedly be enjoyed by mums, dads, grandparents and children alike.
"The importance of encouraging and building a solid education foundation at an early age is invaluable, and the council strongly encourages projects that promote this."
