Wellington Council Launches 24/7 E-Service Delivery

Wellington Shire Council has launched an e-service, delivering 7 days access to services online

By Karen Gregory - 3rd September 2002 - Back to News

Wellington Shire Council has launched an e-service, delivering 24 hours a day, 7 days a week access to services online.

Over the coming weeks, Council will gradually bring a huge range of services online to meet the needs of residents, business owners and visitors to the Shire.

This practical e-commerce initiative to provide integrated online service delivery
will benefit remote and regional communities and people unable to access Council’s Customer Service Centre during business hours.

Wellington CEO Lyndon Webb said that the benefits of delivering Council e-services to the community could be measured in cost-savings, productivity and efficiency.

"Wellington Council e-service will provide reduced transaction costs, plus a convenient and flexible operation that meets participants’ needs, with added bonus of the opportunity to expand the range and extent of operations.

"Current trends indicate an increasing demand for e-services. By responding promptly to that trend, Council is improving its customer service delivery and providing a better and wider range of access to services by the community – especially those living in remote and rural areas.

"Efficiency savings and increased productivity comes from freeing up staff who would normally be involved in manual, paper-based administration of services. Their time can be usefully diverted to further improve customer service in other directions."

Wellington E-Service has begun by allowing ratepayers to make payments through secure link with Secure Pay. Australia Post Billpay remains an alternative option for payment.

Additional services, including payment of infringement notices, renewals and Customer Action Requests, will come online shortly.
