Start made on Franklin Street playgroundThe development of the open space on Franklin Street in Traralgon has commenced, with the building up of the playground base in preparation for installation of playground equipment and infrastructure. By Latrobe Shire Council - 6th September 2004 - Back to News Latrobe City's Recreation Co-ordinator, Simon Clark, said the development has been designed and co-ordinated by a working group made up of local residents together with Cr Sheridan Bond and Cr Lisa Proctor.
"A final design plan for the open space was formulated following consultation with the community through community meetings," Mr Clark said.
Cr Bond said the next stages of the project will include the installation of playground equipment, walking paths, lighting, seats, brick walls, tree planting and landscaping, as well as the retention of open space.
"The project is being funded by the donation of labour, equipment and materials from companies and individuals, Latrobe City's Community Grants Program and monetary contributions held over for the purpose from land development," Cr Bond said.
"The building up of the playground base has been achieved through the generous donation of machinery and manpower from Roche Thiess Linfox (RTL). On behalf of the working group, our heartfelt thanks," Cr Bond added.
Councillor Lisa Proctor said residents will be able to observe the progression of the project over the next few months with an official opening celebration proposed for the end of November 2004.
"The contribution of time and skills from the volunteers on the working group has been fantastic, as has been the various donations from community members and local businesses. The working group is excited that the project will provide the community with a wonderful new recreational area," Cr Proctor said.
