Young Bookworms Urged To Get Into Reading This SummerWith the long school holidays soon to be upon us, avid readers in Latrobe City are urged to head to their local library to sign up for the ‘Read around Oz’ competition that starts on Monday 11 December. Latrobe City’s senior library officer children’s services, Noeline Grayden said that the long days of summer were the perfect time to discover the magical world of books.
"Young readers can register at any Latrobe City library and the competition runs from 11 December 2006 to 28 January 2007. Once registered, children will receive a reading record and fun activity sheets. Children then list the books they read during the school holidays on their record sheet.
"Once they’ve read ten, they must return their reading record to their local library to be eligible to enter the prize draw," Ms Grayden explained.
"Fantastic prizes to be won this summer include the entire Series 1 set of Emily Rodda’s books ‘Deltora Quest’. There are three consolation prizes as well as other smaller prizes," Ms Grayden added.
"Through this fun program we hope to reach out to as many children as possible to encourage a love of reading that will last a lifetime.
