Hard Waste Changes

The new ‘on call’ Hard Rubbish collection service will be available from 1 July 2009.

By Bass Coast Shire Council - 12th June 2009 - Back to News

Bass Coast Shire Council provides a kerbside collection service to over 22,500 residential properties across the Shire. Each of these properties is also entitled to one hard rubbish collection each financial year, at a cost of $25.

Council’s Infrastructure Director, Steven Piasente, said the change to the Hard Rubbish collection service was part of a new waste contract for Council.

"Previously, Council ran an annual free hard rubbish collection service," said Mr Piasente.

"This service was very popular and we appreciate that many people especially our older residents, rely on it to keep their properties tidy.

"However, having hard rubbish left out on the kerbside created some real safety concerns, as well as making the streets very untidy.

"Now people can book a collection and keep the waste within their property boundaries until it is collected," explained Mr Piasente.

"We believe that this new approach provides a safer, cleaner, more efficient collection."

Details of the new Hard Rubbish collection are on Council’s website (www.basscoast.vic.gov.au), including a booking form for the new service.

"You can fill in that form at any Council Customer Service Centre and pay by credit card, cash or cheque," explained Mr Piasente.

"You can use your credit card to book over the phone and if you download the form and mail it in, payment options include cheque, money order or credit card.

"Once your form has been lodged and payment made, you will receive a call from Council’s waste contractor to work out a suitable time to collect your waste.

"They will also confirm the collection point and any special arrangements for the pick up.

"This also provides an opportunity to confirm the type of waste that can be included in their collection."

Mr Piasente said anyone with queries or concerns should contact Council on 1300 BCOAST (226 278) and speak to one of the Waste Management team.

Details of how to book a collection, payment options and a list of items that cannot be included are available on Council’s website at www.basscoast.vic.gov.au
