Feedback sought on draft Smiths Beach town plan by Bass Coast Shire Council
Bass Coast Shire Council has developed the Draft Smiths Beach Town Plan, following extensive community engagement in 2020 and is now looking for feedback.
The Draft Plan brings together the community's priorities for the township and has been developed in collaboration with a panel of community members and a reference group of key organisations including the Smiths Beachcombers Association, Phillip Island Nature Parks and the Woolamai Surf Life Saving Club.

Vision for a future
The aim of the Draft Smiths Beach Town Plan is to present a vision for the future of Smith Beach across eight key areas, including Access and Movement, Built Form, Environment, Governance, Land Use, Play and Celebration, Public Realm and Services.
The plan also includes four 'game changer' projects, including a new trail, upgrades to the Smiths Beach and YCW Beach car parks and a proposed shared zone on Smiths Beach Road, among other actions and initiatives across the wider community.

Council will also be running three drop-in sessions at the following times:
- Saturday, 7 August from 11.00am to 4.00pm at Smiths Beach Car Park*
- Thursday, 12 August from 4.00pm to 8.00pm at Phillip Island Information Centre, Newhaven
- Thursday, 19 August from 11.00am to 4.00pm at YCW Beach Car Park*
*In the event of bad weather, these sessions will be relocated to the Phillip Island Information Centre in Newhaven. In the case of further public health restrictions preventing in-person events, these drop-in sessions will be held online.

Council is keen to hear from the community on the Draft Smiths Beach Town Plan and is seeking the feedback of full-time residents, seasonal residents, tourists, day-trippers and the wider Bass Coast community. The consultation period runs from Tuesday, 22 July to Tuesday, 31 August.
