Wellington Shire Council is pleased with the number of groups who have registered a site for Clean Up Australia Day this year.

"There has been a great response from the community so far," said Cr Beth Ripper, Mayor of Wellington Shire Council.

"To encourage groups further we will be giving away three worm farms," said Cr Ripper.

"Worm Farms help to recycle food waste from your home, office or school into a useful fertiliser for your garden, and keep nasty smells and flies out of your wheelie bin.

Worm farms valued at $93 each will be given to a selected School, Business and Community Group which has registered a Clean Up site.

Waste Education Officer with Wellington Shire Council, Lisa Crisp, said there were plenty of locations that needed a clean up.

"So far, 12 Groups have registered, from Golden Beach to Dargo.

"Some of these groups have been cleaning up the litter from these areas for many years now. On average, each group collects over 10 bags of litter," said Ms Crisp.

"Registering a site is easy and there are places around Sale that are in need of a spruce, including Lake Guthridge and Lake Guyatt.

"People can contact the Council on 1300 366 244 for any assistance, or visit the Clean Up Australia Day web site", said Ms Crisp.

Ms Crisp said people can also join any number of sites including Carrs Creek roadside, Maffra Road Sale, Woodside township roadsides, Dargo township, Golden Beach, Briagolong township streets, the Loch Sport Entrance and the Port of Sale.

"New comers Bundalaguah and Wurruk Schools are also lending their help this year, as well as the Wellington Shire Council staff themselves," said Ms Crisp.

Clean Up Australia Day is on Sunday 4 March. Sites could be cleaned on or before the day.
