Northe Urges A Show Support For White Ribbon Day

This Thursday is White Ribbon Day, and Nationals Member for Morwell Russell Northe is urging the community to get involved in activities to help raise the awareness that violence against women should not be tolerated.

By Russell Northe - 25th November 2010 - Back to News

Mr Northe said the many events to be held around the Latrobe Valley were a great way to help change the attitudes and behaviour that support or excuse violence against women in Australia

"The White Ribbon Foundation does a marvellous job to promote awareness and ensuring great participation from communities, organisations and individuals.

"Given there are possibly going to be numerous activities occurring within workplaces across the region it would be great to be able to collectively let the community know that more and more people and organisations are raising the issue of violence against women and that they are pledging to help make violence against women a thing of the past.

"I personally have undertaken an oath that states I will not condone violence against women, or excuse violence against women, and will not remain silent about violence against women.

"I call upon all members of our community to likewise support such an important day and undertake an oath to stop violence against women.

"If your workplace, organisation, family or friends or holding an event for White Ribbon Day today, and you have some fantastic photos, I encourage you to forward those to David Elder at Latrobe City via david.elder@latrobe.vic.gov.au.

"Together we can all show a united front, that we are all opposed to violence against women."
