It’s Time to Enter the 2007 Tyers Art Festival The 28th annual Tyers Art Festival is seeking entries for this year’s exhibition. By Peter Harrison - 3rd September 2007 - Back to News Peter Harrison, Principal of Tyers Primary School and spokesperson for the Tyers Art Festival Committee, said: ‘The Tyers Art Festival, held from Friday 9th November to Sunday 11th November, is one of the highlights of the year on the Gippsland Art Calendar. Each year we aim to refine our approach to engage the best new artists from across the region and beyond, while retaining many of our successful entrants from previous years.’
New to the festival this year are the ‘Young Artist Awards’ which include:
- The Arthur Savage Award, which is open to all secondary students with the theme of ‘Self Image’, any medium
- Under 17 Young Artist Award for Drawing
- Under 18 Encouragement Award
- Under 18 TADAS Keith Glucina Award
‘Tyers Primary School is the proud host and main beneficiary of the Tyers Art Festival. We wanted to reflect that in this year’s program.’ Mr Harrison continued. ‘Most of our annual enrolment of around 80 students continues their secondary studies at nearby schools, so we see it as a way of strengthening the school’s connection with the whole community.’
Mr Harrison said, ‘The Art Festival will also be hosting the DSE & CFA Gippsland Summer 06/07 Fire Season Photographic Competition and Display, which will highlight other aspects of life in a rural community.’
Mr Harrison concluded, ‘For more information and entry forms, contact the Tyers Primary School on 03 5191 8260, or Peter Harrison direct on 0409 918 261. Information is also available from the Tyers Primary School website www.tyersps.vic.edu.au/Artshow.htm or by emailing art.festival.tyers@edumail.vic.gov.au. Entries close Friday 5th October, 2007 with amendments and substitutes accepted until 5pm Friday October 12th.
