The Board will continue to work with the Latrobe City Business Tourism Association (LCBTA) as well as working collaboratively with other tourism bodies such as Destination Gippsland.

Members of the Latrobe City Tourism Board are: Latrobe City Councillors Darrell White (chair) and Christine Sindt; industry and community representatives Roger Chao, John Mackenzie, Matthew Addison and Christine Lee; representative of Latrobe City Business Tourism Association, Terry Sumner, Latrobe City Council’s manager of Economic Development, Geoff Hill, Manager of Cultural Liveability, David Elder, Tourism Coordinator, Linda Brock and Team Leader Visitor Information Centre, Rachel Callus.

Chair of the Tourism Advisory Board, Councillor Darrell White, said that tourism was a significant industry in Latrobe City injecting $83m into the economy.

"The Latrobe City Tourism Advisory Board may be involved in such activities as contributing to the development of a Tourism Strategy and Action Plan. The Board also provides representation for the Latrobe City tourism industry on a range of issues such as providing feedback to Tourism Victoria on the Victorian Regional Action Plan," Cr White said.

"Many businesses and residents do not realise that Latrobe City is a tourism destination. It is positioned well in central Gippsland which lends itself to ‘hub and spoke’ touring, which means staying in Latrobe City but making day trips to the Lakes or mountains, for example.

"It’s also worth remembering that tourism can take many forms, not just tourists taking a holiday but there is also corporate tourism, conference tourism, visiting friends and relatives and event tourism which is a key form of tourism within Latrobe City," Cr White said.

Board member, Cr Christine Sindt, said that the tourism industry was very much alive in Latrobe City.

"Through the long-term commitment of a host of operators, networks and government agencies, tourism in Latrobe City has evolved into what is now an established and vital industry sector.

"Council supports the tourism industry by providing visitor services, as well as participating in consumer shows, conference and events attraction and supporting events. We are committed to the long term future of the tourism industry here in Latrobe City and in the wider Gippsland region," Cr Sindt concluded.
