Share In The Excitement Of Seniors Week 2005

Senior citizens throughout the Gippsland Electorate are being urged to "kick-up their heels" and help celebrate Victorian Seniors Festival from March 15 to 20.

By Peter Hall - 7th February 2005 - Back to News

The Nationals Member for Gippsland Province, Peter Hall, said the theme of this year’s five-day celebration is "The Age To Be" which will highlight the active contribution seniors make in our communities.

"The festival aims to bring together seniors from all parts of the state to participate in activities that benefit their health and wellbeing," he said.

"This is an exciting opportunity for older Victorians to become involved in a range of activities, to celebrate with family and friends and to meet new people."

During the festival Victorian Senior Cardholders will be able to travel free on public transport on V/Line Country Rail and coach services on March 12, 15, 16, 17 and 19.

Mr Hall said last year a number of seniors expressed their disappointment at the limited country train services available to cardholders during the festival.

He said The Nationals will continue to raise the issue with the Government to ensure an equitable service for country rail passengers wishing to attend metropolitan events.

Mr Hall urged seniors to pick up a copy of the Victorian Seniors Festival program for full details of events throughout the state and to book their transport needs well in advance.

"Senior citizens make a valued contribution to society, particularly in country Victoria, where more often than not they are the driving force behind local charitable and sporting organisations.

"The festival is a great way for all Victorians to say thanks and share in the excitement."

Programs for this year’s festival are available from Coles and Bi-Lo supermarkets, Information Victoria (1800 136 762) or from Peter Hall’s Electorate Office at 190 Franklin Street, Traralgon.
