Minister for Tourism visits Wellington Shire Pioneer Trails at Balook By Balook & District Residents Association - 24th June 2002 - Back to News The Honourable Mr John Pandazopoulos will officially launch the ‘Balook Signage Project’, which has been developed by the Balook and District Residents Association (BADRA) in the Tarra Bulga National Park, Balook region.
Funding was received by BADRA from the Victorian Government, and the group have since worked for several months on the project. There are twenty-one information and pictorial signs strategically placed, plus two six by three metre entry signs. The large signs show the entire trail through the region that gives an insight to life in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. It is situated on the eastern end of the Strzlecki Ranges and the area is known locally as the Heartbreak Hills.
A web sight http://www.gippslandinfo.com.au/Balook/index.html has also been developed depicting the trail with photographs. Also a brochure has been produced for ease of visitors to follow the trail and can be found at the Central Gippsland Visitor Information Centre at Sale, Yarram VIC and Traralgon VIC.
President of BADRA Mrs Pam Pattison said "The partnership between Wellington Shire Economic Development and BADRA has been very effective in seeing this project come to fruition and encourages people to take the time to visit the region".
The launch will take place at the Balook Visitor Centre on the western boundary of the Wellington Shire and in the Tarra Bulga National Park on Thursday 27th June, 12 noon.
