New faces on Wellington’s DANs

Seven new members have been elected onto Wellington Shire Council’s District Advisory Networks (DANs)

By Wellington Shire Council - 19th June 2003 - Back to News

Seven new members have been elected onto Wellington Shire Council’s District Advisory Networks (DANs) and a new chairman onto the DAN Forum – bringing fresh experience to this communication initiative aimed at boosting local community representation in Council policy and decisions.

Founding member of the DAN network, Dave Murrell, has been elected Forum Chair, taking over from Jeff Amos who is now a Wellington Shire Councillor. Also elected are: former Wellington Councillor Brian Lee of Yarram; Julie Johnstone, Dimity Russell and Sandy Roberts of Stratford; John Cribbes and Bryan Hobbs of Sale; and Ron Graham of Maffra.

There are seven DANs run by enthusiastic volunteers that are representing local communities across the Shire - providing an invaluable conduit for information between those they represent and the Council. They meet quarterly to offer advice and ideas on local issues and so help to influence the decision-making and policy-making process.

Said Wellington’s Mayor John Jago: "Our DAN representatives play an invaluable role in communications between the community and the Council. Their ability to advise us on a wide variety of local issues throughout the regions they represent is a highly valued resource. We welcome and look forward to working with the new members and the new Chair."
