Dream Your Winter Escape At The Latrobe Regional Gallery

Almost thirty local artists will be making it easier for us to get through the first weeks of winter by exhibiting their work in a new exhibition Escapism:

Places to dream of currently on show at the Latrobe Regional Gallery.

Latrobe City’s art director, Julie Adams, said that during the last six months, members of the Morwell Art Group, Moe Art Society and Traralgon & District Art Society have been busy thinking about far

away places, revisiting memories and constructing imaginary lands.

"The challenge was set for the group of artists to make an artwork that portrays a place of reality or fantasy which the artist wishes to visit. The resulting exhibition includes works that take us to places such as Italy, England and the Middle East as well as locations that exist within the Latrobe Valley or only in the imagination of the artist.

"With a wide variety of mediums being used, the exhibition showcases the breadth of talent that exists within our region. These three art groups provide a fantastic avenue to bring local artists together, where they can exchange ideas and share skills. For many years they have played an important role in the cultural life of our region," Ms Adams said.

"Visitors to the gallery will have the opportunity to vote for the ‘Best Work in Show’ with the winner being announced at a special exhibition celebration on Saturday 30 June, 1pm – 3pm at the gallery. So make sure you visit the gallery to choose your favourite," Ms Adams concluded.
