Statement on the Morwell Bowling Club
The Morwell Bowling Club, a cherished community hub for over a century, was destroyed by fire overnight. Although the new greens and function centre were spared, priceless memorabilia and the building were lost.
The Morwell Bowling Club has been a much-loved community asset for over a century, and in many ways it's the heartbeat of the town. This morning we woke to the devastating news that the club had been destroyed by fire overnight. While the new bowling greens and function centre were undamaged in the blaze, the rest of the building was lost, despite the best efforts of our local CFA and FRV crews.

Irreplaceable memorabilia lost
More than 100 years' worth of invaluable memorabilia has been lost and it can never be replaced. The club has been an exemplar of community spirit by continually and generously sponsoring local sporting clubs and fire brigades, and donating to support events across the Latrobe Valley.
It's a world-class sporting facility, successfully hosted the Victorian Open with hundreds of bowlers, and is home to hundreds of members who call the club home. Right now, and in the coming days, we'll wrap our arms around the Morwell Bowling Club, its members and its 70 staff who are understandably distraught. One thing is for sure - this amazing club will rebuild, and we will all be there to help.
