By Wellington Shire Council - 6th December 2006 - Back to News

Cr Ripper was elected to Council at the last Council elections held in 2005.

"I believe Wellington is fortunate in that Councillors work very well together and I intend to continue this team approach," said Cr Ripper.

"I thank the immediate past Mayor, Cr Malcolm Hole, for his leadership and good work in consolidating the new Council over the last 12 months. He has done a very good job," said Cr Ripper.

Cr Ripper believes she will bring additional networks and skills to Council.

"It is important that community groups of all interests are able to have access to Councillors and that Councillors be able to gain access to a broad range of community views.

"As Mayor I will continue to encourage community groups to put their views forward," said Cr Ripper.

"I look forward to working closely with the community, my fellow councillors, the Chief Executive Officer, Lyndon Web, and Council officers for the development of all areas of the Shire," said Cr Ripper.

Cr Ripper was born in Sale and educated at Airly Primary School and Sale High School. Having studied and worked in education and the arts in Melbourne, she is now living in Stratford, where she is active participant in many community groups. Cr Ripper is mother to two adult daughters and Nan to five grand children. An artist, gardener, community project worker and artistic director of the Stratford Shakespeare on the River Festival, Cr Ripper runs a Bed and Breakfast business.

The meeting of Wellington Shire Council also elected Cr Jeff Amos as Deputy Mayor.

Cr Amos was previously Mayor from March to November 2004, and then Deputy Mayor to November 2005. This is his second term as a Wellington Shire Councillor.
