Art Tour For 2007- 2008

The launch of the new Bass Coast Art Tour brochure will take place on Friday 29 June at the Westernport Hotel in San Remo.

By Bass Coast Shire Council - 22nd June 2007 - Back to News

The new brochure will be launched at the opening night of an exhibition by the participating local artists.

Bass Coast Shire Council’s Arts Officer, Josephine Kent said the Art Tour brochure first began in 2000, as a way of bringing an audience and buyers to artists in the area.

"The brochure was developed by the Bass Coast Arts and Cultural Forum, with assistance from Council," explained Ms Kent.

"At the time, there were very few venues in the area to help promote the local arts scene and the brochure was an innovative way to showcase the amazingly talented artists in the region.

"The brochure gave people the chance to visit artists’ studios and see the artwork in the environment where it was created," continued Ms Kent.

The Art Tour now includes an exhibition of artworks by the participants at the Westernport Hotel.

"The exhibition goes until 8 July and can be viewed in the lounge, during hotel hours," said Ms Kent.

"The aim of the exhibition is to give people a taste of what they may find if they visited the artists and their studios.

"In a way, it’s the flip side to the actual Art Tour concept. The Art Tour brochure brings people to the art and the exhibition brings the art to the people!"

The Art Tour exhibition will include painting and drawings in various media and styles. These range from traditional seascapes in oils to bright modern statements, glass work that melds with other mediums to become sculpture and brightly painted ceramics.

All works are for sale by contacting the artists directly.

"This is a wonderful opportunity to support local artists," urged Ms Kent.

"Come along to the Westernport Hotel between June 30 and July 8, enjoy the art and pick up the latest Art Tour Brochure."
