Premier’S Sustainability Awards Recognise Victorians Who Lead

Businesses, community groups, schools, tertiary institutions and government agencies are invited to enter the Premier’s Sustainability Awards for 2011, which are now open.

By Russell Northe - 11th February 2011 - Back to News

Nationals Member for Morwell and Parliamentary Secretary for Small Business Russell Northe said this year’s awards are focussed on recognising organisations that are ahead of the pack and taking action to secure the state’s future.

"The Baillieu Government believes it is important to acknowledge those people and organisations that have shown leadership, in reducing everyday environmental impacts," he said.

"This year’s theme is "Lead - Create – Innovate", and highlights the role leadership, creativity and innovation plays in forging a future of sustainable energy and resource use for Victoria."

The eight award categories for 2011 are small business; large business; community; products or services; built environment; local government, state government and tertiary education. There is also a Premier’s Recognition Award.

Mr Northe said businesses that become sustainable are more likely to have a financial advantage by adopting a triple bottom line that also has many social and environmental benefits.

"In addition, businesses can create smarter and more productive solutions through their influence with companies in the supply chain which in turn improves their sustainability and increase opportunities with consumers, suppliers and government," Mr Northe said.

Entries for the Awards are now open, and close 1 April 2011.

Information sessions will be held on February 17 and March 14 to provide applicants with assistance in submitting applications. The awards will be held on 9 June 2011.
