Bushland beauty on display at GalleryA new exhibition called ‘Bush waters, gums and gardens- a close look’ commenced last Friday in the International Power Hazelwood Community Access Gallery at the Latrobe Regional Gallery. By Latrobe City Council - 16th September 2005 - Back to News The exhibition features works by Marilyn Close who works from her studio in Yinnar South set amongst a large garden and bushland, aspects of which are often featured in her paintings.
Latrobe Regional Gallery Director, Louise Tegart said that instead of exposed landscapes, Ms Close had chosen to focus on the interesting details of her subjects.
"A corner in the garden, ferns by a creek or an intimate look at the bark of a eucalypt tree, all express this intention. Walks through bushland, along rivers and creeks have inspired Ms Close to produce the works in this exhibition. Taking note of the colours, textures and details of her surroundings, Ms Close demonstrates a love of nature with skill and patience," Ms Tegart explained.
"This is not the first time Ms Close has exhibited in Latrobe Regional Gallery’s Community Access Gallery; in 1998 she was involved in a group exhibition and then in 2000 exhibited solely.
"Ms Close has been exhibiting her work in metropolitan and regional art shows and competitions for many years and has been awarded a large number of prizes and honourable mentions," Ms Tegart added.
‘Bush waters, gums and gardens- a close look’ will continue until Sunday 2 October 2005.
The Latrobe Regional Gallery is located at 138 Commercial Road, Morwell, and is open Monday to Friday 10am-5pm, and on weekends 11am–4pm. The gallery is closed public holidays. For further information about exhibitions at the gallery, please telephone 5128 5700. Admission is free.
