Grantville Technology Centre LaunchedBass Coast Shire Council launched a new Technology Centre at the Grantville Transaction Centre yesterday. By Bass Coast Shire Council - 25th May 2006 - Back to News The informal launch involved an open day for business and community members to come and try the new computer facilities, which include broadband internet access and a Government Service Point Network.
Council and Information Victoria staff were on hand to assist people and show them how to use the computers and other facilities.
Cr Veronica Dowman said the Centre would be of great benefit to local community members, particularly those that didn’t have access to broadband internet or computer facilities at home.
"I encourage all community members to come along and have a look at what’s available.
"Our staff here are very welcoming and helpful," said Cr Dowman.
To access the computer and internet facilities, community members simply need to make a booking with Council’s Grantville Customer Service Centre.
There is a small cost of $1 per hour or part thereof, for one off use. There is also the option for annual membership, which provides unlimited computer use.
No booking is required to use the Government Service Point Network, which provides free internet access to all government websites and free telephone access to the Information Victoria Call Centre.
Information Victoria representative, Helen Beekmans, said the Government Service Point Network was there so that community members could get better access to government, closer to home when they need to.
"You don’t even need to know how to use a computer; our customer service people can talk you through the process over the phone," said Ms Beekmans. The Grantville Transaction Centre is open from 8.30am – 1.00pm and from 1.30pm – 4.30pm. To make a computer booking in the Technology Centre, to discuss membership, or for all other enquires, please call the Grantville Transaction Centre on 5671 2211 or 5951 3311.
