Last Chance To Have Your Say

Time is running out for Bass Coast residents, Leisure Centre users and community groups to have their say on the Aquatic and Leisure Feasibility Study before comments close on Friday, 27 May.

By Bass Coast - 20th May 2011 - Back to News

Bass Coast Shire Council’s Acting Community and Economic Development Director, Antoinette Mitchell, said it was important anyone who still wants to comment on the Feasibility Study took this opportunity to do so.

"There have been over 380 community members who have commented so far, but the response from sporting clubs has been slow," said Ms Mitchell.

"Football, cricket, tennis and netball clubs are all regular users, however we haven’t had a lot of feedback from them.

"It’s really important if a club uses the centre or would potentially use the redeveloped centre that they contact us.

"Our officers have met with all the clubs that have regular bookings at the centre and we have some great input from them.

"A lot of the feedback shows the Centre is not meeting the community needs.

"We are asking individuals and clubs to give us feedback on the findings of the study, so we can clearly establish whether our community believes this upgrade is necessary."

Feedback will be summarised and included in a Council report at the July meeting.

At this stage, Council has not committed to the redevelopment and needs to know if the community wants this project to go ahead.

Based on community feedback recommendations will be made to Council about whether to adopt the feasibility study and undertake further work or to abandon the project.

Upgrading the leisure centre in Wonthaggi does not rule out a facility on Phillip Island in the future.

Have your say

Residents have until 27 May to provide their feedback on the Feasibility Study.

A brochure summarising the Study and a feedback form is available at all Council Customer Service Centres and Bass Coast YMCA Centres. These are also available online at www.basscoast.vic.gov.au.

Feedback must be supplied in writing. You can register your feedback online, write a letter or mail the feedback form to Mr Allan Bawden, Chief Executive Officer, Bass Coast Shire Council, PO Box 118, WONTHAGGI 3995.
