Vaggs Road residents cross new bridge in Yinnar

Residents of Yinnar recently witnessed the completion of the newly constructed Vaggs Road bridge. The new bridge replaces an ageing structure that formally crossed the Morwell River.

Latrobe City maintenance engineer, Jey Vyravipillai, said that the Vaggs Road bridge was recognised as requiring extensive repair works or replacement.

"However, the old bridge was deemed more or less obsolete. It was a more viable for a new bridge to be constructed beside the location of the old one, where we could also make improvements to the approach, rather than upgrade the existing bridge," Mr Vyravipillai said.

The construction works on the bridge included two concrete abutments and concrete piles, super tee beams and concrete deck, the installation of a steel barrier railing and guard fence along the approaches, and the construction and sealing of the approach roads.

"The bridge provides a vital link between residents which live on the other side of the Morwell River, and the rest of the community. The continual improvement and maintenance of the region’s physical infrastructure ensures our residents’ safety and wellbeing," Mr Vyravipillai said.

During the construction of the bridge, the existing Vaggs Road bridge was utilised for the normal traffic. The bridge works and the approach road works were undertaken for Latrobe City Council by Hourigan and Walsh Pty Ltd.
