By Bass Coast Shire Council - 28th November 2006 - Back to News

"The day is for people of all ages and all abilities," said Bass Coast Shire Council’s Rural Access Officer, Kerri Ritchie.

"Bring along a picnic and enjoy the free entertainment.

"There will also be displays and information from a range of organisations that provide services for or by people with a disability."

International Day for People with a Disability aims to promote awareness of disability issues and the talents and contributions of people with a disability.

"We think the day provides a great opportunity to focus on services and activities provided in the Bass Coast Shire," said Ms Ritchie.

"Guide Park was chosen for its many features that make it accessible to people of all abilities and suitable for all ages.

"It is hoped that a community working party will be established to plan future events and ensure that the talents and contribution of people with disability continue to be recognised," she said.

The event is being run by Bass Coast Shire Council at Guide Park, Wonthaggi from 11am to 3pm on Sunday 3 December.

The low floor accessible bus will be available for transport from Wonthaggi, Inverloch and Cape Paterson. Bookings are essential and must be made prior to 4pm on Thursday, 30 November by phoning 5671 2705.

For more information contact Rural Access Officer, Kerri Ritchie on 5671 2211 or 5951 3311.
