Weekend trial bus service for Churchill’s A trial bus service between Churchill and the Morwell Leisure Centre and newly refurbished Traralgon Outdoor Pool will operate from this weekend. By Latrobe City Council - 7th January 2004 - Back to News The bus service will run after existing weekend public transport operating hours to provide Churchill residents with public transport to the Morwell Leisure Centre and Traralgon Outdoor Pool over the holiday period.
Latrobe City Mayor, Councillor Graeme Middlemiss, said Latrobe Coordinated Community Transport and the Urban Renewal Program had agreed to trial the weekend bus service to provide more opportunities for Churchill residents to access Council's leisure services over the warmer months.
"The trial will help identify the amount of public transport needed by Churchill residents to adequately access leisure facilities throughout Latrobe City during school holidays," Cr Middlemiss explained.
"A recent survey conducted by Latrobe Coordinated Community Transport identified access to Council's leisure facilities outside the local area as being a high priority for young people in Churchill. The trial program aims to address transport needs and provide greater recreational opportunities, especially to the recently refurbished Traralgon Outdoor Pool during the hot summer period."
"A twelve-seat mini bus will be used for the first run, and ongoing operations will be subject to demand. However, the program does have the capacity to increase to two buses and bookings may be required at a later stage if the service proves to be popular," Cr Middlemiss said.
The bus will cost $2 for a return ticket and will depart for Morwell Leisure Centre and Traralgon Outdoor Pool on Saturdays and Sundays from Glendonald Food Mart at 1.30pm and the Churchill Leisure Centre at 1.45pm. The bus will depart from the Traralgon Outdoor Pool for Churchill at 5.15pm and from the Morwell Leisure Centre at 5.30pm.
