Member for Morwell Russell Northe today announced the funding recipients of the first phase of the 2014 Country Action Grant Scheme and Victalent grants.

¡§Each day thousands of Victorians go above and beyond to support their local sports,¡¨ Mr Northe said.

¡§A great example of this commitment is the distance covered by the many rural and regional teams, coaches, and athletes just to compete in their local competitions.

¡§The Victalent grants help these Victorians with travel costs removing potential barriers to training, competition and realising their sporting dreams.¡¨

Mr Northe said supporting local organisations to operate more effectively was another way the Victorian Government was ensuring even more Victorians got their chance to play sport and get more active, more often.

¡§That¡¦s why the Country Action Grant Scheme grants are so important,¡¨ Mr Northe said.

¡§They help local sports organisations operate more effectively, especially in essential areas such as administration and program delivery, so even more Victorians get their chance to play sport and get active, more often.

¡§Together the programs go a long way to assisting grassroots sport in rural and regional communities increase their local skills base, implement best practice and promote active participation by helping to meet the travel costs incurred by local clubs and members,¡¨ he said.

105 projects would benefit from a share of more than $174,000 in the first phase of the 2014 grants programs, with second phase funding of more than $175,000 to be announced in May 2014.
