The plantings, which have been designed to coincide with Planet Ark’s National Tree Day on Sunday 27th July, kick off this Friday when students from Heyfield Primary School plant 300 native trees and shrubs at the Heyfield Apex Park. Next comes Rosedale Primary School who will be working at the Prince Street Reserve, followed by Sale’s ‘545’ Primary School at Victoria Park, each planting 300 more.

On Sunday, the Wurruk Development Group will be joined by Wellington Shire Mayor John Jago, who will plant the first of 500 native plants to be installed in the Community House Playground in White Court on Sunday. The planting, which starts at 11.00am, will be followed by a sausage sizzle funded by the Shire and volunteers will be eagerly welcomed.

Then on Thursday 31 July some students from Araluen Primary School in Sale will be planting 300 native plants at Lake Guyatt.

All plants have been donated by the Shire as part of its Urban Forest Strategy.

Said Mayor John Jago: "Our environment is our most important asset and this is why Council has recently adopted an Urban Forest Strategy to promote the planting of native vegetation in our towns, and in our parks and gardens. This will not only strengthen the environment but will beautify it as well, making our Shire an attractive place to live or to visit."

"I thank all the students and volunteers who will help us make this happen over the coming week."
