Cowwarr Football Netball Club scores $20,520 in grant win

Wellington Shire Council and Brendan Jenkins MP, State Member for Morwell District are pleased to announce a $20,520 Victorian Government grant to revamp the multi-purpose court at the Cowwarr Recreation Reserve.

The welcome grant was announced in Cowwarr today as part of the Victorian Government’s four-year, $34 million Community Facilities Funding Program – which offers grants for projects providing high-quality and accessible community sport and recreation facilities.

This upgrade will increase safety and see an expansion of the existing netball court, installation of multi-purpose netball and basketball equipment, removal of disused and outdated equipment, professional line-marking and a new switchboard.

Hundreds are set to benefit from this welcome redevelopment including netballers and umpires from the North Gippsland Football League who compete at the court, local school children and netball, basketball and football sporting clubs in the area.

Said Wellington’s Mayor Peter Gault: "The council is extremely pleased to have assisted the Cowwarr community in securing this welcome funding which is something the whole shire can benefit from.

"We welcome this financial injection from the Victorian Government’s Community Facilities Funding Program and also recognise the three-year fundraising campaign undertaken by the Cowwarr Netball Club which has collected over $4,000 to contribute to the financial costs of this project.

"The council urges all community sporting associations and groups who have projects they wish to undertake, to put their plans on paper and apply for Victorian Government grants. Wellington is eligible to put forward funding requests for three projects per year under this program and has a Community Development Unit committed to assisting these groups with their applications."

Said Brendan Jenkins MP, State Member for Morwell District: "We are pleased with the Brack’s Government’s contribution to the Cowwarr community, and congratulate the town for its fundraising efforts. Projects such as the Cowwarr netball courts development do not get off the ground without the hard work of a dedicated team. They deserve a great pat on the back."

More information about the Community Facilities Funding Program is available by telephoning Wellington’s Recreation Development Officer, Michael Rowell on 1300 366 244.
