Latrobe City’s Manager Arts, Paul Holton said that Mr Scherer had worked at the Gallery in a number of positions for the past 16 years and had brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to the newly created position.

"With the re-development of the Gallery, new opportunities have been created to expand the exhibitions program featuring the Gallery’s collection. The role of Senior Curator has been created to recognise the importance of that function and of the collection itself," Mr Holton said.

"Rodney Scherer’s knowledge of the Visual Arts in the Gippsland Region has been influential in the development of the Latrobe Regional Gallery collection over the last 12 years. With important acquisitions such as the historical Allan Aldous Asian art collection; the contemporary Colin Suggett sculpture collection; Ingrid McGaughey Glass collection and long-term loan of the Victorian State Craft Collection Glass together with acquisitions of individual art works making the collections of the Latrobe Regional Gallery of both national and regional significance," Mr Holton explained.

Mr Scherer said that his passion for the art and the satisfaction gained through project-orientated work influenced his decision to accept the position of Senior Curator at the Gallery.
