Free Help For Local Businesses

Free and confidential business assistance is available to small businesses in the Wellington Shire.

By Wellington Shire Council - 29th September 2003 - Back to News

The Wellington Business Mentoring Program is a new and innovative program to provide guidance and support to existing and potential small businesses.

The program is a partnership between Wellington Shire Council and the Victorian Government which matches volunteer experienced business people with existing or start-up firms that require assistance – perhaps because they are newly established or looking to strengthen their position in the market place, or to overcome a particular hurdle.

Wellington Shire Council Economic Development Manager Tim Wills said businesses could receive help with bookkeeping, GST and BAS, marketing, tourism, hospitality, staffing, business start-up and business purchase.

"We have already had broad interest from businesses across the Shire and the feedback so far is just fantastic," he said.

"Most of the businesses mentored so far tell us they would wholeheartedly recommend the program to others."

Mr Wills said the project was a key support mechanism for economic and business development in the region.

"It has the scope to generate significant dollars in terms of additional activity and, much more importantly, to generate or save a large numbers of jobs," he said.

Project coordinator Peter Quennell is seeking expressions of interest from new or existing businesses seeking support, and also people with business experience who may like to volunteer to be a mentor.

For further information, contact Peter Quennell on 5142 3462.
