Successful Community Forum At Inverloch

Group discussion raises issues such as roads, toilet blocks and foreshore management

By Carol McCormack - 16th July 2002 - Back to News

Approximately 30 residents attended a Community Forum held at the Inverloch Community Centre on Wednesday evening (10 July). The Forum was part of Council’s regular community forum program. Held on the second Wednesday of every second month, the forums provide an opportunity for the community to talk with Council in an informal setting.

Councillors and Council staff attended the Forum, and spoke informally with attendees. The Forum also included displays of information about Council services and activities plus a group discussion.

Issues raised during the group discussion included questions about infrastructures such as roads and toilet blocks as well as foreshore management, and planning.

"Probably the most valuable aspect of the Forum was the opportunity for Councillors, staff and members of the community to talk informally," said Cr John Gains, Mayor of Bass Coast Shire Council.

Cr Gains explained that the feedback received about the three forums so far was overwhelmingly positive.

"People enjoy the opportunity to meet face to face with Councillors and staff and really discuss issues of concern," said Cr Gains. "For many it has demystified Council, helping people realise that Councillors and staff are members of this community and doing their best for the Shire."

Forums have previously been held in Kernot and Cowes. The next community forum will be held in Kilcunda in September.

Cr Gains said that one of the gratifying aspects to come out of the Inverloch Forums was the positive feedback from the community about Council in general.
