Top Education in the Latrobe Valley

Local teachers up for prestigious awards, still loving their job and helping our children get the best education

By Matthew Harmonica - 23rd May 2000 - Back to News

Education in the Latrobe Valley meets all expectations.

Onno Van den Eynde, mathematics and science teacher at Traralgon Secondary is in the running for the 2000 Lindsay Thompson Fellowship. This award is given in recognition of teaching excellence, and offers $50, 000 and a term overseas.

Several district teachers will be honoured with 35 years Service Awards. Many of these teachers still love coming to work as much as the day they began. "That is a really pleasant experience when a child says, 'you used to teach my mum'", said Noel Brown, principal of Morwell Park Primary. (Source LV Express).

Local teachers like Mr. Van den Eynde have been noted as really caring about the children and their education. "It gives me a great deal of pleasure... the whole focus is on the children" (Source LV Express).

Many teachers spend much time away from the classroom discovering how to engage the kids and get them more interested in learning.

Our teachers putting their best foot forward with such enthusiasm is a great asset to the whole community.
