Trafalgar Skatepark to be officially opened. The Minister for Sport and Recreation, The Hon Justin Madden MLC will officially open the Trafalgar Skatepark next week. By Baw Baw Shire Council - 21st July 2003 - Back to News The skatepark is jointly funded by the State Government through Sport and Recreation Victoria ($50,000), the Andrew’s Foundation ($20,000) and the Baw Baw Shire ($40,000).
Baw Baw Shire Mayor Cr Geoff Davey, said that the skatepark, like those in Drouin and Warragul, is a great example of the community, the Council and the State Government working together to achieve excellent outcomes for the community.
"Council responded to the community when they expressed a keen interest in developing a skatepark facility. By working with the community, in particular the Youth Committee and the Skatepark committee, we were able to access funding to allow this project to be realised," Cr Davey said.
"What we have now is a top-class facility that is already proving extremely popular with the young people of Trafalgar."
Strong interest in developing skateparks has been shown right across the Shire for several years. Council responded to this and now has three facilities including Drouin, Warragul and now Trafalgar. Council has now invested a total of $270,000 into developing these facilities.
Construction of the Trafalgar skatepark commenced in May 2003. Designer and builder Rob Lewers of Concrete Skateparks was appointed as the building contractor.
Cr Davey said that Council would like to thank the State Government, the Andrews Foundation for their support and everyone who played a part in any way in assisting in the development of this very special youth facility.
