Holiday program for young people

Latrobe City Youth Services are running a school holiday program for young people aged 12-18 years at the Traralgon, Moe and Churchill Youth Action Centres.

By Latrobe City Council - 17th September 2003 - Back to News

Latrobe City’s Youth Action Worker, Tynele Smyth said that opening hours at the centres would change over the holidays.

"Instead of our usual opening times of 4pm to 8pm, over the holidays we will be open from 12 noon to 4pm, at a time when young people are looking for some structured activities to get involved with," Ms Smyth explained.

"These programs are well organised, staffed by qualified Youth Action Centre workers and are free for teenagers to attend," Ms Smyth said.

"The Traralgon Youth Action Centre will open from 12 noon to 4pm on Monday 22 September. There will be a cooking day, with great food to make and eat, as well as activities like making dream catchers and jewellery. The following Monday, also at Traralgon, the young people can create their own ceramic designs with clay," Ms Smyth continued.

"On Tuesday 23 September and Tuesday 30 September at the Moe Youth Action Centre (12 noon to 4pm), there will be mosaics to create, as well as some cooking classes, opportunity to use the computers and a pool competition," Ms Smyth said.

"On Wednesday 24 September, the Churchill Youth Action Centre will have a Pamper Day, which includes hair design, make-up, foot spas and hand massage. The following Wednesday at Churchill, there will be plate painting and sun catchers," Ms Smyth explained.

Ms Smyth said that all young people of Latrobe City were welcome to attend the Youth Action Centres.

"If you’ve never been to a Centre, or even if you come regularly, this special holiday program is a great opportunity to meet new friends and do something different over the holidays," Ms Smyth concluded.

Churchill Youth Action Centre is located at Gaskin Park Stadium, Traralgon Youth Action Centre is on the corner of Jones Court and Shakespeare Street, and Moe Youth Action Centre is situated at 35 Elizabeth Street.

This program is supported by the Commonwealth Department of Family and Community Services. Entry to the Youth Action Centre is free, and lunch is included for all participants. We encourage you to make a booking by ringing Latrobe City Youth Services at the One Stop Shop on 1800 196 884 (free call).
