The report highlights a productive year for Latrobe City with attention drawn to the completion of the Latrobe City Hyland Highway Landfill and Churchill and District Community Hub, and the progress of the Latrobe Leisure Moe Newborough refurbishment as key achievements in the capital works program.

The spotlight was also on council’s adoption of the Road Asset Management Plan, and Bridge and Culvert Asset Management Plan; which together with progress achieved on the review of the Municipal Strategic Statement throughout the year were highlighted as key planning activities for Latrobe City’s future.

This year’s annual report also details an array of operational statistics for the 2008/09 financial year, including the collection of almost 31,000 tonnes of waste, the provision of over 73,000 hours of home care, the welcoming of over 455,000 attendances through Latrobe Leisure facilities, and the maintenance of 540 hectares of parks, reserves and median strips.

Latrobe City mayor, Cr Lisa Price said Latrobe City Council maintains a strong financial position.

"This ensures that we can continue to provide quality services while building and maintaining important infrastructure for our community," Cr Price said.

At Monday night’s meeting, council also considered the Auditor General’s report on council’s finances for the year 2008/09.

Latrobe City’s chief executive officer, Paul Buckley, said the Auditor General’s report clearly highlights Latrobe City as being in a strong financial position and council having complied with all fiscal requirements.

"Key financial indicators support this view, and the report confirms the municipality’s finances are being managed in a responsible and prudent manner," Mr Buckley said.

"During the 2008/09 financial year Latrobe City Council has continued to improve the quality of many of its services, formalised a number of key plans to meet community aspirations and delivered projects to benefit our community," Mr Buckley added.

Latrobe City mayor, Cr Lisa Price said she encouraged all members of the community to obtain a copy of the annual report to review for themselves council’s broad range of services, programs and activities undertaken in the 2008/09 financial year.

"The Latrobe City Council 2008/09 Annual Report will be available at council service centres in Moe, Morwell and Traralgon, and on council’s website www.latrobe.vic.gov.au," Cr Price added.
