will be able to influence the future of their favourite recreational activities after it was resolved that the Gaskin Park Master Plan draft report would be released for public comment, following the Council meeting on Monday 7 February.

Latrobe City mayor, Councillor Darrell White, explained that releasing the draft Master Plan for public comment was in accordance with Council’s Community Engagement Plan 2010–2014 and provides a great opportunity for the community provide input into the plan.

"The draft Master Plan, which was developed through significant community consultation by Hansen Partnership, outlines the potential for Gaskin Park to become a major sporting precinct providing for higher level sporting needs of Latrobe City’s Southern Towns. There is a great deal of potential in the location and I encourage everyone to have their say.

"The draft Master Plan will also provide guidance for future capital works projects that will further enhance the functionality, use and amenity of the Gaskin Park reserve. The reserve has potential to become a top level, multi-use facility where a multitude of sports are played.

"In developing the draft report, consultation was conducted through community meetings and interviews with key stakeholders, user groups, Councillors and internal Council stakeholders. Site visits, a survey questionnaire, and public and user group submissions were also undertaken in the process.

"Considerable input was received from representatives of baseball, bowls, cricket, senior and junior football, hockey, badminton, and tennis. Both Churchill and District Community Association (CDCA) and Monash University were involved in the consultation process," Cr White said.

"Written submissions in relation to the draft Master Plan will be received from 9 February 2011 until 11 March 2011. During this time, copies of the draft Master Plan will be available upon request from all Council Service Centres and on the ‘Have a Say’ page on Council’s website," Cr White concluded.

Submissions on the Gaskin Park Master Plan draft report should be in writing and can be emailed to Karen.tsebelis@latrobe.vic.gov.au; mailed to Karen Tsebelis, Latrobe City Council, PO Box 264, Morwell VIC 3840; or dropped off at any Latrobe City service centre.
